Biography
Jamilah Watson is a graduate student in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. Her research interests include medical sociology, race and inequality, social determinants of health, and population health studies. She obtained her B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from Queens University of Charlotte. Jamilah is a 2017 Fulbright Grant Recipient to the Dominican Republic. During her grant period, she worked as an English pronunciation instructor, teacher trainer, and facilitated lectures. Her most recent role included working as a population health specialist with the Duke Population Health Management Office. She has experience working in Federally Qualified Community Health Centers and assisting underserved populations in addressing social determinants of health barriers. In her spare time, Jamilah enjoys playing roller derby, playing the drums, camping, and traveling.
