Biography
Sydney Dyck is a second-year Ph.D. student in sociology and affiliate of the Disaster Research Center. Sydney's research interests include disasters, trauma, Indigenous rights, post-colonial theory and community recovery. She received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and was the 2020 recipient of the Natural Hazards Center Undergraduate Student Paper Award for her paper “Only A Matter of Time: The Impacts of the Cascadia Subduction Zone and Colonialism on Indigenous Communities in Vancouver Island". Sydney is currently volunteering with the Eleventh Street Bridge Community Long-Term Recovery Group in Wilmington, where she acts as administrative assistant to this emerging organization, which is the first long-term recovery group in the state of Delaware. In her free time, Sydney likes to play guitar, hike and seek out Delaware's best bubble tea.
