Biography
Katie Mirance is a graduate student in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. She obtained her bachelor's degree in criminology from Mount Aloysius College. Katie also received her M.A. in sociology from the University of Delaware. Her master's thesis was titled "Power in a Frame: A Content Analysis of Media Framing on Intercollegiate Athletes Accused of Sexual Misconduct," which focused on national-level and university-level newspapers' portrayal of athletes accused of sexual misconduct and how this perpetrates a culture of toxic masculinity. Her current research concentrates on gender-based violence within the institution of sport.
