Biography
Dr. Mieke Eeckhaut is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Delaware. Her research applies a social-demographic perspective to the study of reproductive health inequalities. Recent work has focused on disparities in the use of long-acting contraceptive methods (sterilization, intrauterine devices, and implants), and has been published in leading journals in the fields of (Family) Sociology (Journal of Marriage and Family, Socius, Journal of Family Issues, European Sociological Review, Acta Sociologica), Demography (Demography, Population Research and Policy Review, Population Studies, Demographic Research), and Reproductive/Women's Health and Medicine (Women's Health Issues, Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Contraception, Fertility & Sterility, Preventive Medicine). Prior to joining UD, Dr. Eeckhaut received her PhD in Sociology from Ghent University (Belgium) and completed a NICHD F32 postdoctoral fellowship at the California Center for Population Research at the University of California, Los Angeles.
