Biography
I am a PhD student in the Department of Sociology with a research focus on environment/disaster and racial stratification. Before I came to the University of Delaware, I earned a B.A. in cultural anthropology from Western Illinois University in 2020 and an M.A. in applied anthropology from the University of Kentucky in 2022. My passion for disaster studies was sparked on an undergraduate trip to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, where I learned about policy, the environment, and food systems. I hope to delve into ways to make our disaster preparedness and recovery processes inherently anti-racist and foster local/community-based resilience. I am originally from Peoria, Illinois and just recently moved to Newark, this is my first time living on the East Coast!"
