    Biography

    ​​Shannon Streisel is a doctoral candidate in the Criminology program.  She received her Master of Arts in Criminology from the University of Delaware in 2018.  Her master’s thesis was a qualitative analysis highlighting that not only do collateral consequences affect reintegration and recidivism as we traditionally think of them, but also recovery potential and maintenance among those who are justice-involved and have substance use disorders.  Shannon has been a graduate research assistant at the Center for Drug and Health Studies for three years and has worked on a variety of federally- and state-funded projects related to substance use and criminal justice.  Currently, she is working on the evaluation of SAMHSA’s State Opioid Response grant and Promoting Integration of Primary and Behavioral Healthcare grant, along with Delaware’s Hero Help Addiction Assistance Program through the New Castle Police Department.  Most recently, her research has been published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Federal Probation, and Substance Use and Misuse.  Shannon was also the 2020 recipient of the Frank Scarpitti Graduate Student Award that is presented annually to an outstanding graduate student in the department.
