Summer Educational and Cultural Experience Program

The Summer Educational and Cultural Experience Program (SECEP) is designed and hosted by Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and Department of Political Science and International Relations for Chinese students interested in gaining in-depth and comprehensive understanding of American society and culture. By attending college classes and seminars, visiting governmental institutions and communicating with local professors and students, students can obtain first hand experience of American college life as well as the cultural, social and political environment of the society. The theme of the 2019 program is "Politics and Justice in the United States."

Ivan Y. Sun, Program Director, Professor, Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice

Ivan Y. Sun is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and faculty of Asian Studies at the University of Delaware. He received his Ph.D. in criminal justice from the State University of New York, University at Albany. His research interests include police attitudes and behavior, public assessments of legal authorities, and crime and justice in Asian societies. Dr. Sun has published 3 books and more than 100 refereed journal articles since 2002, including over 70 articles on crime and justice in Chinese societies.
Charles J, Mays, Program Assistant, Department of Political Science & International Relations

Charles Mays is the current William P. Frank Graduate Fellow at the Center for Political Communication. His interests lie primarily in American Politics, specifically in American Political Behavior and Political Psychology. He is currently working on research exploring political trust among new Latino/a immigrants and on the role of emotions in political behavior.
Wenjin Wang, Program Assistant, Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice

Wenjin Wang is graduate student in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and Graduate research assistant at the Center for Drug and Health Studies. Her research interests include social capital, health inequality, and community study.
