Mission Statement

The mission of the Sociology and Criminal Justice Graduate Student Conference is to recognize and foster the development of junior scholars and their research. This yearly event facilitates faculty mentorship and critical feedback toward the development of graduate and undergraduate research. The annual Graduate Student Conference should provide students with the opportunity to build professional skills, establish networking opportunities, receive feedback regarding ongoing student research, and most importantly, it will aim to cultivate an environment for a community of scholars.

2017 Graduate Student Conference: Feburary 10, 2017

On February 10, 2017, the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice hosted its 10th annual Graduate Student Conference; the conference theme highlighted the methodological implications of studying social inequalities.This year's conference, which featured Dr. Annette Lareau from the University of Pennsylvania as the Brian Pitt Keynote Speaker, brought together scholars from a variety of social science disciplines from UD and surrounding universities. For more information about the Graduate Student Conference, please visit http://sites.udel.edu/scj-gc/graduate-student-conference/.

Previous Graduate Student Conferences:

​Each year the conference features student presentations and concludes with a keynote speaker. Past speakers have included Dr. David Grazian, Dr. Elijah Anderson, and Dr. Raymond Paternoster. This year's speaker is Dr. Victoria Pitts-Taylor, Professor of Sociology, Director of the Center for the Study of Women and Society, and Coordinator of Women's Studies at the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
